ABOUT

Fran Gayo, from Madrid (Spain) is a Jazz drummer and percussionist based in Madrid. He is actively part of the national Jazz scene.

After attending the Conservatory in Getafe, where he completed his studies in Classical Percussion graduating with a Special Mention from the Community of Madrid, he studied Jazz in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and later on his Master Studies at Codarts (Rotterdam).

In Amsterdam and Madrid, Gayo had the chance to perform and play with outstanding musicians like Xavi Torres, Bernard van Rossum, Gustav Lundgren, Pablo Martín Caminero, Chris Kase, Mariano Díaz, Rex Richardson, Jorge Vistel, Bobby Martinez, Reinier Elizarde, David Sancho, Trinidad Jiménez, María Toro, Víctor Antón, Cecilia Krull, Joaquín Chacón, Michael Bisio, Dick Oatts, Tim Warfield and Ben van Gelder among others.

In 2017 he won the "Tete Montoliu Jazz Scholarship", which recognizes the most promising young jazz talents in Spain. In the same year, he went to New York to study with Jochen Rueckert and Craig Weinrib.

As a bandleader, he has performed with his quintet at venues like Podium Grounds (Rotterdam) and Bimhuis Café (Amsterdam).

He has performed in most of Spain, as well as The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, France, Turkey, Cyprus, Africa, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and Germany on stages including So What's Next Festival (Eindhoven), Jazzahead (Bremen), Maanrock Festival (Belgium), Bimhuis, XVII and XVIII Madrid Jazz Festival, 24th International Festival of the Arts (Cyprus) Alger International Jazz Festival (Algeria), Kinshasa International Jazz Festival (Congo), Keep an eye Record (Amsterdam), JazzBoz Festival (Bergen op Zoom), Münsterland Jazz Fest (Germany) and Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival (Barcelona).
